What is Kalpabhed?
This crazy concept from Hinduism may just be the inspiration behind the Marvel Cinematic Universe movies you see today.
We’re probably the only culture that says time is a never-ending cycle rather than linear & this is why we have large units to measure it like yuga, manvantara & kalpa that keep repeating.
At the top is a Brahma who lives for 100 years, and each day in his life is a kalpa, spanning 4.32 billion years. Within each kalpa, he creates the universe & we have 14 manvantaras, within which 71 mahayugas start & end.
Most of the scriptures say we are just in the 51st year of the current Brahma’s life, in the first or second day (kalpa), called as Sveta Varaha Kalpa, in the 7th Manvantara, in the Kaliyuga of the 28th Mahayuga cycle.
We still have 400,000+ years to go for this to end & restart again, and in each manvantara, we’ll have a new set of dominant Gods, rishis & other beings spawning & taking positions like Indra, which are not fixed.
The only constant probably is the vedas which will be forgotten & then revived again through spiritual masters.
And you’ll still have major historic events like Mahabharata & Ramayana taking place but they all have slight variations - which is why many of the things you read in Hinduism feel contradictory but they’re often from different kalpas.
We call the reason for these differences in the stories “kalpabhed” because we’re essentially looking at different multiverses with infinite possibilities.
So the next time you feel too much weight or too overwhelmed, remember we’re smaller than a blink in the eyes of the universe, so just focus on doing good karma & slowly moving ahead.
