Sanātana Explained

Swarga vs. Moksha

“Bro, I’m doing good karma so I’m excited to go to heaven & live there forever now.”

Actually, you’ll be surprised to know that heaven sucks & it should not be your goal so here’s the tea.

The beautiful & realistic unique lesson of Sanatan Dharma, which separates it from other religions, is that there is no promise of eternal heaven or hell.

This basically means that neither will you suffer punishment for your sins forever, nor will you be able relish & live in pleasure forever.

The Swarga Loka in our cosmos is not a permanent destination but just a higher plane or level in 14 main levels or realms of the universe.

If you gain enough good karmic balance, you can get access to it but like a day pass, you’ll eventually exhaust the merit, and come back by taking birth in bhuloka, so as long as you’re stuck in this cycle of karma, you’ll suffer sooner or later.

In fact, in swarga loka, although there is comfort, luxury & pleasure … deities & beings there are always involved in ego struggles because they are very attached to their power, happiness, status, and pleasures … so in a way, going to heaven is kinda counterproductive.

The goal, then, of Hinduism, is not heaven but moksha, samadhi or mukti - which is basically freedom from this land of karma by becoming one with God & living in his abode.

That is only possible when you practice detachment from all your material goals & desires, instead doing nishkama karma i.e. selfless service & duty towards the society.
