Sahana Vavatu - Ideas, Explained

Do you ever feel anxious, stressed or nervous before you sit down to learn something new?

We have an excellent mantra to calm down your nerves & here’s the tea.

Mantras are tools to redirect our energy and we have a special Shanti Mantra that invokes inner peace, found in the Taittiriya Upanishad of our Krishna Yajurveda.

It was originally meant to be chanted by teachers (gurus) and their students together, before they sat down to study or practice yoga.

It goes -

ॐ सह नाववतु।

सह नौ भुनक्तु।

सह वीर्यं करवावहै।

तेजस्विनावधीतमस्तु मा विद्विषावहै।

ॐ शान्तिः शान्तिः शान्तिः॥

The English transliteration is -

Om Saha naa-vava-tu

Saha nav bhu-nak-tu

Saha viryam karavaa-vahai

Tejaswina vadhitamastumavidhvishaavahai (all in one breath)

Om Shanti, Shanti, Shanti Hee.

It means, May the Supreme Power of the Universe protect us together (both, the student and teacher). May He nourish us. May we collaborate with great energy. May our studies be very fruitful, fulfilling and enlightening. May there be no hate or drama between us. Let there be peace, peace, peace.

So before beginning any learning journey, say this mantra and I promise you that you’ll have the best start ever, not only enjoying it but also retaining the knowledge in the long term!
