Finding your Ishtadev

Do you know your Ishtadev? Here’s why it can help you & how to find out easily!

Our Vedas clarify that the Ultimate Reality, called the Brahman, is formless, genderless and faceless. But since that is difficult for us humans to accept. & follow, we can go for Bhagavan, who is a specific deity or personal form of God who acts like a role model or a buddy in your spiritual journey.

Ishta means “chosen” or “desired.”

It’s normal to have different ishtadevs in different phases of your life depending on what kind of growth or powers you need - the idea is to find someone who you are naturally attracted to & curious about, using that form simply as a tool to focus & meditate.

The first way to find out who you can pray to for better results is to ask a certified jyotish to look at your Kundali & spot technical things like the Atmakaraka graha i.e. the highest graha in any zodiac sign. They may also look at the Navamsa chart or the 12th House from the Atmakaraka in the Navamsa chart - all of which will have ruling deities. This is a complex step & you can also try different online calculators but they give unreliable results, so they’re not recommended.

Second, you can check with your parents or grandparents on your kuladevata, the deity protecting your family & lineage, who you may have natural bond with. You can go to a temple & ask a guru to meditate & help you find out + initiate you with the deity’s mantra.

The third most cool way to find it out is to use my free AI Bot called as “IshtaDev GPT” which will recommend someone based on your current problems, needs, wants, desires, personality traits, virtues, expectations & gaps in life.

It will also tell you how to worship & where to read more about the deity.
