Sanātana Explained

Does Karma justify abuse?

Bro doesn’t karma justify the suffering that victims of casteism, abuse, or oppression go through?

No. That would be absurd & cruel.

We think that karma is some kind of cosmic revenge system - do bad in this life, and the universe will pay you back by making you suffer the same way in another. But that’s not how it works.

Karma is education for the soul. It’s not about punishing people - it’s about learning. If someone harms others, they may go through struggles, suffering, or even be reborn in certain conditions - but not as payback. It’s to help them evolve.

This entire system is part of Rta, the universe’s way of keeping everything in balance, so karma alone doesn’t decide your fate - it is part of a larger game.

Also, nobody “deserves” to suffer, especially not victims of r*pe or @buse. Hindu scriptures strictly forbid crimes like r*pe, murder, and theft, and they prescribe severe punishments for such acts.

The criminal is acting out of their own choices & free will - Purushartha. Even God doesn’t make anyone to do these things as he doesn’t interfere in our daily lives. So the perpetrators alone are responsible for their actions, and they will face justice.

Karma is a checkpoint for the wrongdoer, never the victim. Blaming the victim by using karma as an excuse or justification, is just stupid.

At the same time, life isn’t just about individual karma. There’s collective karma, societal structures, and even plain bad luck - Durbhagya. So blaming victims is not just wrong, it’s ignorant.

So in one line, Karma explains one of the many causes of suffering, but does not MORALLY justify it. Just like when you touch fire, it isn’t trying to hurt or punish you, it just burns on its own, and you just feel the effect.

Krishna explains in the Bhagavad Gita that karma is too vast and complex for the human mind to fully decode.

Instead of obsessing over why things happen, he tells Arjuna to focus on Dharma - doing what’s right, standing for justice, and letting divinity handle the rest.

So if you ever hear someone say suffering is “deserved” because of past life karma, call them out. That’s not karma, that’s just bad logic & more importantly, it’s an adharmic thought.
