RSS Sarsanghchalak Mohan Bhagwat offered prayers at the Sri Sri Sarvajanik Durga Puja pandal in Dhantoli, Nagpur. He called Śakti the force that "makes everything possible" and said Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa's worship of the Mother came before the nation's resurgence, and that Swami Vivekananda's mission began with her blessings.

Devotees filled Kamakhya in Guwahati and pandals across the country on Aṣṭamī and Navamī.

Key data

Guwahati's Latasil committee marked its 50th year with a pandal modelled on Kedarnath. Cuttack's silver-filigree Chandi Medha tradition is over 500 years old.

Why it matters

The remarks set the tone for the RSS chief's Vijayadaśamī address, the Sangh's annual agenda-setting speech.

GK: did you know?

The Devī Māhātmyam, or Durgā Saptaśatī, recited during Navarātri, makes up 13 chapters of the Mārkaṇḍeya Purāṇa.
