Possible to Die at Will?
Do you know it’s possible to decide when you want to die? Here’s the tea.
In Sanatan Dharma, we have the concept of Mahasamadhi i.e. merging permanently with the Supersoul we call The Brahman.
Through this method, great yogis & saints are said to gain the power to decide when their souls consciously leave their bodies, giving them a peaceful controlled death when they like. Moreover, they are free from the cycle of life & death, leading to eternal bliss.
This is possible only through mastery over yoga, or as a reference point Patanjali’s 8 limbs of yoga - yama (ethical constraints), niyama (rules of conduct), asana (posture), pranayama (control of breath & life force), pratyahara (withdrawal of senses), dharana (concentration of mind), dhyana (deep meditation state), and constantly reaching states of samadhi (transcendence or enlightenment).
Some of the notable figures alleged to have done this are Swami Vivekananda in 1902, Paramahansa Yogananda in 1952, Anandamayi Ma in 1982, Ramakrishna Paramahansa in 1886, and Adi Shankaracharya a few centuries ago.
Usually, these people will retreat themselves & go into meditative states, opening & rupturing their ब्रह्मरन्ध्र (Brahmarandhra) i.e. the cosmic opening at the top of our skulls, through which the soul exits & achieves mahasamadhi.
This is the tenth gate but usually, most of our souls are said to exit through the other 9 gates of our body - including our 2 eyes, 1 mouth, 2 nostrils, 2 ears, and the 2 openings in our private parts, which signify our bonds to the temporary pleasures of the material world, leading to us being born again into suffering because of our karmas.
Mahasamadhi is a difficult state to achieve but start your meditation journey so that you can grow spiritually.
