More Indian Art you should know!
If you call yourself an Indian, you need to know these famous paintings from your own country! (Part 2)
1. Glow of Hope by S. L. Haldankar
Also called as “Lady with the Lamp,” this realistic work is known for its light techniques, almost looking like an actual photo. It was drawn by S. L. Haldankar who was a master in creating realism & capturing emotions through his portraits.
2. Three Pujarins by Jamini Roy
This one shows 3 priestessis or worshippers in a very flat 2D style, still managing to capture their emotions. Roy was known to take inspiration from Bengali folk traditions & his work is highly stylized, bold, non-realistic yet beautiful.
3. Bindu by S.H Raza
This abstract piece is a typical signature of Raza, who believed the circle, representing God, to be the origin of the universe & his work blends concepts of philosophy, religion & cosmology into art. You’ll see geometric shapes & abstract stuff in almost all of his work.
4. Days of Glory by Satish Gujral
Created as his reflections during the Independence & the country’s Partition struggles, Gujral’s work shows human suffering, history, and the resilience of the human spirit.
His work is surreal & soaks you with bittersweet human emotions.
5. Bapuji by Nandalal Bose
A quick sorry because I misattributed this one to Hussain in the last part although he did draw Gandhi portraits, too but this particular one belongs to Bose. Bose was known for his simplicity & inspiration from Tagore, Gandhi & other historical or cultural Indian figures.
