4 Mahavakyas of Hinduism
Did you know the Netflix Series Sacred Games gave us the secret of the universe?
And the secret is hidden in Guruji’s words Aham Bhramasmi, so here’s the tea.
This sentence is part of the 4 mahavakyas from the 4th & final sections of our Vedas, which we call Upanishads.
These 4 were selected by our rishis, with many crediting it to Adi Shankaracharya, to be the essence of all the teachings of our Sanatan Dharma - because Shankaracharya bro knew that we’re all too lazy to read all the endless books & scriptures so he picked just 4 sentences to summarize everything.
1. Prajnanam Bhrama coming from the Rigved, tells us that the Conciousness is Bhrama, so it’s basically revealing there is a God & He is the only ultimate reality of this universe - so this tells us what the universe is.
2. Aham Bhramasmi coming from the Yajurveda, says I am Bhrama, meaning you in this body are not real but just a part of this huge infinite conciousness called God - so this tells us about our own nature, which is that we are the entire universe.
3. Tat Tvam Asi, coming from Samveda, says “That you are,” meaning you & everyone of us is ultimately connected to God - so it tells us our relationship to God in an instructional manner.
4. Ayam Atma Bhrama, coming from the Atharvaveda, says “The Self is Bhraman,” meaning we are not different from God - so this focuses on teaching us that God & us, in a sense, are not different.
These 4 come from the advait school of thought meaning the purpose of this school is to teach us to increase our level of perception by being less distracted by material things so that we can all realise the truth about ourselves.
