The Indore bench of the Madhya Pradesh High Court disposed of the Muslim side's appeals after they cited a settlement with the Ujjain Municipal Corporation, which is widening the road near Mahākāleśvara ahead of Simhastha 2028. Portions of the Shahi Masjid were removed, and police used tear gas during protests.
Further action at two mosques near KD Gate is on hold pending talks.
Key data
Demolition depth cut from 9.5 feet to about 3 feet, minaret to be relocated, and replacement shops provided. 272 structures affected on the stretch; about 90 religious structures, temples and mosques, fall in the widening zone.
Why it matters
Simhastha infrastructure is colliding with religious property on all sides, and litigation and political heat will grow as 2028 nears.
