Mūrtis at the Mata Jog Maya temple in Rathi village, Nagarparkar, were smashed on the night of 5 October; police arrested one suspect and are checking whether others were involved. In a separate case, police in Tando Allahyar registered an FIR on 6 October against two accused after two Hindu sisters were abducted on 29 August and allegedly converted and married.

The FIR came only after the community submitted documents, and a sessions judge has sent the girls to a safe home.

Key data

More than 5 weeks between abduction and FIR.

Why it matters

The cases fit a recurring pattern in Sindh of temple desecration and alleged forced conversion of Hindu girls, and activists are demanding the sisters' ages be verified.
