BAPS Australia has proposed what could be the country's largest temple of its kind, 64 metres tall, at Cranbourne South. The City of Casey has lodged an objection citing green-wedge rules, traffic and vegetation.
Victoria's planning minister will decide under the Development Facilitation Program.
Key data
143 ongoing jobs. Over A$12 million a year to Victoria's economy. Up to 1,200 weekday visitors. About 1 in 10 Casey residents have Indian ancestry.
Why it matters
It is a test case for how large diaspora temples fare in Western planning systems.
