Aeji Mangal Bhavan Meaning
“Aeji Mangal Bhavanaya…”
Have you heard this music played in memes on social media? Do you know it actually has a deep meaning from our Sanatan Dharma? Here’s the tea.
So the origin of this meme lies in the recitation done by Rajesh Kumar Tiwari ji, also known as Pujya Rajan Ji.
He’s a West Bengal-based kathakaar or bonafied storyteller of Ramayana & other Hindu texts.
He’s referring to a line from Goswami Tulsidas’ Ramacharitramanas, which is a retelling of the historical epic through a very devotional, bhakti-based lens.
This line appears in the Balkand with Shiva talking about Sri Ram’s glory to his consort, Ma Parvati. It is also used as a starting invocation in Sunderkand.
जै मंगल भवन अमंगल हारी।
द्रवउ सो दसरथ अजिर बिहारी॥
This means that I am praying for the victory of Sri Ram, who is source of happiness & auspiciousness, good luck. But not only that, he is also the destroyer of all dark bad luck & inauspiciousness.
He’s the one who played & moved freely in King Dashrath’s courtyard as a kid, and today, let him show me compassion, mercy & grace for my work.
Funnily enough, the tone of this recitation got twisted to act like the desi version of the “Directed by Robert Weide” outro for funny videos in which something’s going horribly wrong, basically calling for Sri Ram to rescue the person screwing up…
While Valmiki’s Ramayana is an OG epic, Tulsidas’ take on it is also an equally beautiful, and one might argue, a more poetic work filled with endless bhakti.
